Luke & the Void

Luke’s parents are in meltdown: his father has lost his job, money is tight, and they have just downsized to a new home and a new area. Luke is a solitary nine-year-old; his new schoolmates don’t like him, his teacher doesn’t know he exists, and only Jessie seems drawn to him. But Luke has bigger things on his mind. He has a mission of his own.
Set in 1986 against the unfolding disaster of the Challenger space mission, we follow Luke and Jessie in the execution of Luke’s intergalactic plan as he borrows and steals from parents and school alike, to build the spaceship which will take him away from this world.
Luke and the Void is a stylised and highly cinematic short film which tells the poignant story of Luke’s escape.
